Bidirectional Cell BufferBt8215 bidirectional cell buffer supports Brooktree's Bt8220 by enabling full-duplex communication between 32-bit systems or processor busses and 8-bit I/O peripherals. Its enhanced buffering scheme uses three I/O buffer ports rather than the traditional two. Separate 2-Kbyte input and output dual-port memory buffersinclude all necessary control logic for 8-to-32-bit conversion.Buffers are also provided for dedicated 8-bit input and output portsand a bidirectional 32-bit port. The Bt8215 also includes all controllogic necessary to achieve low-cost ATM switching andmultiplexing for up to 155-Mbps ports. Low-cost, bus-oriented ATM switches can also be constructed to provide up to 1.2 Gbits/s oftotal bandwidth.
